Dr. Giovanni CUOMO
Giovanni Cuomo, civil engineer, holds a PhD in Science of Civil Engineering at the University of Rome TRE, and in particular in risk assessment and dynamics of coastal structures. (PhD Thesis: Dynamics of wave-induced loads and their effects on coastal structures). Dr. Cuomo is an expert in design method and reliability assessment of civil structures and experimental and numerical modeller of two phase (water/air) fluid dynamics. He has been research scientist at the Hydraulic Research (HR) Wallingford (England, UK), at the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore (MD, USA), at the Port and Airport Research Institute (PARI) in Japan. Dr. Cuomo has served as professional consulting expert in several international research and professional projects including few recent significant projects in the US following the Katrina and Ivan disasters.
Dr. Cuomo is currently scientific researcher at TU Delft (The Netherlands) and Senior Engineer at HR Wallingford (UK).
Dr. Fernando NARDI
Fernando Nardi, graduated in civil engineering, holds a PhD in Flood Hydrology and Hydraulics at the University of Rome La Sapienza, and in particular in the use of remotely sensed digital terrain models for flood risk assessment and mapping by means of advanced GIS-based tools for rainfall-runoff modelling and surface flow dynamics characterization. (PhD Thesis: Dem processing for Hydrogeomorphic Applications). He is an expert in object-oriented computer programming and a free surface flow mathematical model developer. Dr. Nardi has been visiting scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, Cambridge MA, USA) collaborating in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department with the Rafael Bras Hydrology Research Group, and he has also been at Columbia University (New York City, NY, USA) collaborating with Prof. Yuri Gorokhovich (now at Lehman College, CUNY, NY). Dr. Nardi has participated to several international research and consulting projects providing his professional consulting services as flood, mudflow and debris flow specialist within water-driven risk mapping projects.
Fernando Nardi is actually adjunct professor at the Tuscia University of Viterbo within the International ESLUA Dual degree (Hydrology course), research associate at the Honors Center of Italian Universities (H2CU) and member of the GISTAR research group hosted by the GEMINI Department of Agricoltural Studies at Tuscia University.
Fernando Nardi is also part of the FLO-2D development team and for FLO-2D inc. (AZ, USA) he is also in charge of the reselling and technical assistance activities for the Italian and European market. http://www.flo-2d.com/about-us/
Dr. Giorgio LUPOI
Giorgio Lupoi, graduated as civil structural engineer from University of Rome La Sapienza, holds a PhD in Seismic Engineering from the I.U.S.S., Rose School, European School for Advanced studies in Reduction of Seismic Risk, from University of Pavia. Dr. Lupoi has been visiting phD at Berkeley University in California and he also collaborated with the Dipartimento di Ingegneria Strutturale e Geotecnica at University of Rome La Sapienza partecipating to several national and international research projects: SAFERR (Safety Assessment for Earthquake Risk Reduction, 2000-2003) SPEAR (Seismic Performance Assessment and Rehabilitation, 2001-2004) and LESSLOSS (Risk Mitigation for Earthquakes and Landslides – Sub-Project 9: Probabilistic Seismic Risk Assessment: Methods and Applications, 2004-2007) projects funded by the European Community. His research activities resulted in several peer-review international publications focusing on the seismic risk assessment for civil and maritime structures. Professional skills of Dr. Lupoi also include his work at Studio Speri in the evaluation of the seismic risk for hospitals using an advanced probabilistic approach considering complex parameters such as the reaction capacity and the vulnerability of the road evacuation network within the urban framework.
Giorgio Lupoi is also partner at Studio Speri (Rome, Italy).
Eng. Jr. Mattia CAMPOLESE
Mattia Campolese, a graduate in civil engineer from University of Rome “Roma Tre” specializing in hydraulics and structural engineering (Thesis in Building science : “Calculation of truss structures using MATLAB”), is a expert in engineering software programming and interfacing. Mattia has been a teaching assistant for the course “Structural design” at the Engineering faculty in “Roma Tre”. He has advanced know-how in programming languages Delphi® - Pascal as well as in scripting languages (i.e. XHTML, PHP) , mathematics (i.e. MATLAB, Mathematica, Mathcad) and structural analysis softwares (SAP2000). While completing his master of science (MS) degree in the civil engineering dept at “Roma Tre” with a major in Natural Hazards Protection, he is collaborating with HAREC in several applied research programming projects and in particular in the ongoing collaboration with FLO-2D software.
